Ground Investigations: Are They Worth the Risk?

In this recorded Institution of Civil Engineers presentation, Phil Wilson examines the value of ground investigation and its role in managing risk on major infrastructure projects. The presentation considers the preparation and technical briefing required for appearances before the Public Accounts Committee and National Audit Office.

Phil also revisits TRL Report PR60, published in 1994, which examined Department of Transport highway project costs and the relationship between site investigation and construction cost increases. The presentation asks whether changes to contracts, procurement and industry practice now justify an updated ICE review of site investigation practice.
